Cambridge, Ontario. The vibrant palette of arts, culture and heritage is the theme of the 13th Annual Grand River Watershed Heritage Day Workshop and Celebration. Slated for Friday, February 12th between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts, the program will feature community leaders, interactive workshops, tours and opportunities for hands-on learning through best practices.

Keynote speakers include Tim Jackson with the Prosperity Council, Anna Bradford and Patti Tombs with the City of Hamilton along with Drayton Entertainment’s Artistic Director Alex Mustakas, K-W Symphony Music Director Edwin Outwater, and community builder Cheryl Ewing from Ewing Consulting.

The innovative program includes concurrent sessions including a ‘Walkabout in downtown Galt’ virtual tour of the fine examples of 19th buildings directed by Heritage Cambridge President Kathryn McGarry; a City Hall tour of the art collection with Curator Heather Franklin; and a session that focuses on photography’s technical evolution with local photographer Peter Ross. Other community leaders who will be shaping the day include Artist Hugh Thompson, Playwright Gary Kirkham, arts restoration expert Julian Smith, Framing and Art Centre owner Moira McCarthy and Leslie MacDougall, director and owner of the Cambridge Highland Dancers.

This year, the City of Cambridge is the host community, however, the program is delivered in partnership with the Region of Waterloo, Heritage Cambridge and the Grand River Conservation Authority.

“The richness and vibrancy of the arts and culture cluster has natural links with heritage to build strong community and prosperity,” says Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig . “Preserve, present and promote are themes that ring true with this exceptional, hands-on event.”
