United Way Waterloo Region Communities Distributes Targeted Funds

Waterloo Region - United Way Waterloo Region Communities (UWWRC) distributed targeted funds raised through last year’s Giving Tuesday and Holiday Giving Campaign with a special cheque presentation at United Way’s office at 50 Sportsworld Crossing Rd at 3:00 pm Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

Family Counselling Centre of Cambridge & North Dumfries received funds for their Successful Approaches Towards Positive Outcomes in Addressing the Opioid Crisis program, as well as the Cambridge Neighbourhood Table led by Kinbridge Community Association and the Youth Wellness Hub run by Langs in Cambridge.

Marian Best (Addictions Clinical Supervisor) from Family Counselling Centre of Cambridge & North Dumfries was presented a cheque for $30,000.00. Joe-Ann McComb (Executive Director) from Kinbridge Community Association was presented a cheque for $37,500.00 and Darcy Edwards (Community Services Youth Wellness Hub Coordinator) from Langs was presented $10,000.00.

Mayors Sue Foxton (Township of North Dumfries) and Kathryn McGarry (City of Cambridge) were present along with Ken Seiling (Retired, Former Waterloo Region Chair and current UWWRC Board Member) and Samson Ling (President & CEO, Clarion Medical Technologies and UWWRC Board Chair).

Targeted Funds

"We are thrilled to be able to work with these local organizations,” says UWWRC CEO Joan Fisk. “United Way consulted with the community and developed targeted funds to see where help was needed most. We established these funds in response to shifting needs and the community’s ability to respond to those needs.”

UWWRC has continued targeted fundraising this year with another successful Giving Tuesday campaign, focused on Addressing Addiction. Currently a Holiday Giving campaign is taking place until December 31, 2019, with funds being raised in support of Connecting Isolated Seniors, Fighting Hunger and Strengthening Youth Mental Health. Applications for these funds will be solicited in the new year.
